    PERTH’S BEST RAT REMOVAL SERVICES

That scratching sound above the bedroom at 2 am is rarely something a homeowner wants to investigate. Rats can enter a property quietly, settle inside a roof void or wall cavity and remain largely out of sight while they search for food, water and nesting material. By the time droppings, gnaw marks or noises become obvious, the animal may already have established a regular route through the property.

Eco Safe Pest Control Perth provides professional rat control in Perth for homes, rental properties and businesses. With more than 15 years of pest management experience, our pest control Perth team takes a property-based approach to rat problems rather than simply placing bait and leaving.

We inspect for signs of activity, identify likely access points, assess food and shelter sources and develop a control strategy suited to the building. Where rodenticides are appropriate, they are used according to relevant product directions and with consideration for children, pets and non-target animals.

Call 0424 800 001 to arrange professional rat pest control in Perth.

Rat Problems Usually Begin With an Access Point

A rat inside a roof did not simply appear there. It found a route in.

Gaps around roofing, damaged vents, openings around pipes, poorly sealed building penetrations and other structural weaknesses can provide opportunities for rodents to access protected areas. Vegetation close to a building may also help some rats reach roofs and upper structures.

This makes finding potential entry points an important part of professional rat management.

Removing rats without considering how they entered can leave a property vulnerable to another infestation. Our technicians therefore look beyond the immediate activity and assess how the building itself may be contributing to the problem.

Where appropriate, customers receive recommendations for proofing, maintenance and environmental changes that can make future rodent access more difficult.

Rats Commonly Associated With Perth Properties

Two rat species are particularly important around Australian urban environments: the black rat or roof rat (Rattus rattus) and the brown or Norway rat (Rattus norvegicus).

Roof rats are agile climbers and are commonly associated with elevated areas such as roof spaces. Their climbing ability allows them to use vegetation, fences and structures when moving through an environment.

Norway rats are generally more strongly associated with ground-level harbourage and burrowing. They may occur around buildings, waste areas and other locations providing food and shelter.

Knowing which rodent is present can influence where technicians inspect, where monitoring or control devices are positioned and which entry routes receive the most attention.

Professional identification therefore contributes to a more focused control strategy.

How to Tell If Rats Are Living in Your Property

Rats are largely secretive, so you may notice evidence before seeing an animal.

One of the most familiar signs is scratching, running or gnawing sounds coming from a roof void or wall cavity, particularly when the property is quiet.

    Other indicators can include:

    • Rat droppings around cupboards, storage spaces or roof areas
    • Gnaw marks on packaging or building materials
    • Damaged food containers
    • Greasy rub marks along frequently used routes
    • Shredded material used for nesting
    • Unusual pet interest in walls or ceilings
    • Noises above ceilings during quieter periods
    • Evidence of burrowing around suitable outdoor areas
    • Persistent unpleasant odours in enclosed spaces

Finding one sign does not tell you the size of the infestation. Inspection helps establish where rats are travelling and how extensive the activity may be.

Why Rats Should Not Be Ignored

A rat problem is more than an unwanted noise in the ceiling.

Rodents continually gnaw as part of their normal behaviour. Inside buildings, this can result in damage to stored belongings, packaging, insulation and other materials. Electrical wiring may also be damaged by rodent gnawing, creating an additional property concern.

Food contamination is another reason infestations require attention. Rats can move through waste areas, roof spaces and other unsanitary environments before accessing kitchens or storage locations.

Their droppings, urine and contaminated materials should therefore be handled carefully.

The longer rodents have uninterrupted access to food and shelter, the more difficult an infestation can become to manage. Early inspection allows the problem to be assessed before activity becomes widespread.

What Attracts Rats to Perth Homes?

Rats remain around properties that provide three basic resources: food, water and shelter.

Accessible rubbish is a common attraction. Bins without secure lids, food scraps, pet food and fallen fruit can all provide feeding opportunities.

Outdoor bird feeding can also unintentionally provide rodents with a dependable food supply when seed accumulates on the ground.

Shelter is equally important. Roof voids, garages, sheds, cluttered storage areas and dense vegetation can offer protected locations where rats can remain relatively undisturbed.

Water may come from leaking taps, pet bowls, drainage areas or other dependable sources.

Rat prevention therefore involves more than blocking holes. Reducing the resources available around a property can make it considerably less attractive to rodents.

Why Store-Bought Rat Bait Is Not a Complete Strategy

Placing bait wherever a rat has been seen can appear straightforward, but professional rodent management requires more thought.

The first question is whether bait is actually the most appropriate control option for that location. If it is, placement needs to account for rodent movement as well as access by children, pets, wildlife and other non-target animals.

Rodenticides are toxic products and must be used according to their approved label directions. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority advises that rodenticide baits can pose risks to humans and animals if they are not used correctly.

A professional program may incorporate monitoring, trapping, baiting, sanitation recommendations and exclusion depending on the circumstances.

The aim is not simply to make bait available. It is to control the infestation responsibly while addressing the reasons rats entered the property.

Our Rat Control Process in Perth

Effective rat control begins with evidence rather than guesswork.

    1. Property Assessment

We inspect relevant areas for droppings, gnawing, nesting material, travel routes and other signs of rodent activity. Roof spaces, external areas and potential access locations may be assessed depending on the property.

    2. Identify Likely Entry Routes

Possible gaps and structural weaknesses are identified so the customer understands where rats may be gaining access.

    3. Develop a Control Strategy

The appropriate combination of control measures is selected according to the infestation, building and surrounding environment. This may involve trapping, monitoring or professionally managed baiting.

    4. Strategic Placement

Control devices are positioned according to rodent activity and applicable safety requirements rather than scattered randomly around the property.

    5. Prevention Recommendations

We advise customers on food storage, waste management, vegetation, maintenance and potential proofing measures that can reduce future rodent pressure.

This integrated approach addresses both the rats currently present and the property conditions associated with the infestation.

Responsible Rat Baiting and Pet Safety

Rodenticide safety deserves particular attention in homes with children, pets or wildlife nearby.

The APVMA states that rodenticide products registered in Australia must be used according to their approved label directions. Depending on the product and situation, these directions can include requirements intended to reduce access by non-target animals.

Professional baiting also involves selecting locations based on evidence of rodent activity rather than simply putting poison in accessible areas.

Eco Safe Pest Control Perth focuses on targeted pest management and explains relevant precautions to customers before treatment.

Homeowners should never move, open or interfere with professionally installed rodent-control equipment unless instructed to do so by the technician.

Rat Proofing Is Where Long-Term Control Begins

Removing an infestation solves the immediate problem. Reducing opportunities for another rat to enter is what strengthens long-term protection.

Once likely access points have been identified, appropriate proofing can make the property more difficult for rodents to penetrate.

This might involve repairing damaged building components, improving protection around suitable vents or penetrations and addressing gaps where practical.

Garden management can also contribute. Vegetation contacting or overhanging structures may provide access routes, while clutter around sheds and external walls can create shelter.

Proofing should be undertaken carefully because sealing an active rodent inside a building can create additional problems. The timing of exclusion work therefore matters.

    Rat Control for Perth Businesses

Commercial rat activity can affect far more than the building itself.

Restaurants, cafés, warehouses, offices, retail premises and other businesses may provide rodents with food, shelter or regular waste sources. A visible rat or evidence of contamination can also undermine customer confidence.

Commercial rodent management should therefore be systematic.

Our approach can incorporate site inspection, strategically positioned control measures, monitoring and recommendations relating to sanitation, storage and access points.

The plan is tailored to the premises because a restaurant kitchen, warehouse and office building present very different rodent risks.

Simple Changes That Make Properties Less Attractive to Rats

Prevention does not require turning your property into a fortress. Consistent housekeeping and maintenance can remove many of the conditions rats exploit.

Keep rubbish bins closed and avoid leaving bags of waste outside overnight. Store pet food and bulk dry foods in secure containers.

Collect fallen fruit and avoid leaving uneaten pet food outdoors.

Reduce unnecessary clutter in garages and sheds, maintain vegetation around buildings and investigate leaking water sources.

If you hear roof noises or discover droppings, avoid waiting for additional evidence. An early inspection can often identify the problem before rodents become established throughout the building.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why can I hear rats in my roof at night?

Rats are often most noticeable when a home becomes quiet. Roof spaces can provide protected shelter, and rats may move through them while travelling between nesting and feeding areas.

Potential routes include gaps around roofing, vents, pipes and other building openings. Some rats are skilled climbers and may also reach elevated areas using nearby vegetation or structures.

Not necessarily. Sealing an access point while rodents remain inside can create further problems. The infestation should be assessed so exclusion work can be carried out at an appropriate stage.

Rodenticides are toxic and require careful use. Products should be used according to approved label directions, with appropriate measures taken to minimise access by pets and other non-target animals.

Recurring infestations usually mean the property continues providing access, food, water or shelter. Long-term management should address these contributing factors as well as the active rodents.

Yes. Rats gnaw on many materials and can damage electrical wiring as well as insulation, packaging and other building materials.

Yes. Rat control programs can be tailored for restaurants, warehouses, offices, retail premises and other commercial environments.

Neither method is automatically best for every infestation. The appropriate approach depends on rodent activity, property conditions, access and safety considerations.

Secure rubbish and food, remove fallen fruit, avoid leaving pet food outdoors, reduce clutter, maintain vegetation and address suitable entry points after the active infestation has been assessed.

Rats Pest Control Perth (same company) came today and installed rodent stations around the house. The solution was more expensive than I expected, but I'm hoping this will resolve the problem on a longer term basis.

I’m a returning happy customer for ant pest control after 2 years. The granular solution was done professionally by Sam for the whole house again. It worked wonders and ants took the bait within the next few minutes. Overall, it was a great experience with the team, I didn’t have to wait long to organize for Sam to come out. Also, job was done efficiently. Thank you. Hopefully my house will be ant free in no time. I’ll definitely be using them every year for a pest free home.

We have had an ant problem every summer for a few years and have fought them ourselves until this year. Eco Safe Pest Control were very fast at responding to my request. They were a bit late on arrival, but did advise of this. Relatively thorough inspection of property conducted; wanted to see where any activity was. We were then advised of the best course of treatment (which was the granules) which was fine (a little on the pricey side). The ant activity has decreased since treatment (treated 3 weeks ago). Thank you.

After hearing rats in our roof I was after a fast and painless solution to our problem. I googled for a rat exterminator close by, requested a call back and within 3 hours had someone come to my house and taken care of our Rat problem. They treated both outside and in the roof cavity and provide a great warranty for re-treatment if required. We have a lot of pets and a child and knowing the treatment is safe for both was a huge bonus.

Great experience with Eco Safe. Googled closest to my suburb, placed a call and he was here within 20mins. Very knowledgeable, and worked quickly to tackle our problem with ants. Unfortunate our backyard is sizeable as this added to the cost but within minutes I watched the granular bait in action. He stands by his work with a guarantee so fingers crossed our ant problem will soon be a goner. Thank you very much, will definitely use Eco Safe in the future!!!

We have a bad ant infestation around our property and nothing we tried seemed to work. I contacted Eco Safe pest control and Lavlen was able to offer an appointment bit sooner that the other companies I contacted and suggested we only treat the ant issue for now. He is professional and knowledgeable and showed how the granule treatment works. Great service and will get in touch again for any other pest control issues. Thank you Lavlen.

We had an infestation all around the house of brown Ants. It was just getting worse and worse, even while we sprayed and baited. It only took a few minutes for Eco safe to deal with the issue using an granular solution. Lavlen was very professional and knowledgeable. Follow up: within 3 days there was significantly less ants around the house and on day 5 there was none. I was super impressed at how effective the bait worked compared to any off the shelf product. We'll worth the cost. I would have paid double to have this done 2 months ago and avoid all the headache
